Smile Bright with Tooth-colored Fillings
Did you know that 99% of people in the world have had or will develop a cavity? Chances are, you will develop a cavity at some point in your life, if you haven’t already. At Oracle Family Dental, we treat tooth decay with tooth-colored fillings, crowns, or when necessary, root canal therapy. Tooth-colored fillings, also known as white fillings, are made from composite resin and designed to restore a tooth affected by tooth decay.
If you are experiencing dental pain of any kind, it’s important to schedule a checkup with us right away. When a cavity is treated early, we can prevent its progression. If you have tooth decay that’s not too severe, Dr. Johnson will place a tooth-colored filling to match the natural look of your smile, in a single office visit.

How Toothaches and Cavities Develop
Each tooth consists of four layers:
- Soft inner pulp
Cavities occur when enamel is destroyed by bacteria called S. mutans. Brushing and flossing go a long way toward protecting teeth against bacteria. A diet low in starches, including sugar, helps reduce the risk for tooth decay. However, naturally occuring plaque and acids weaken tooth enamel, making it more susceptable to decay. Acid reflux also promotes cavities.
When cavities go undetected and untreated, they can lead to more serious and painful dental infections that affect the soft inner pulp and nerve of the tooth. You’ll need root canal therapy to save the tooth from necessary extraction.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
During your consultation, if Dr. Johnson diagnosis you with a cavity, he will take x-rays to determine whether a filling or more in depth treatment is required. Dr. Johnson is extremely passionate about good oral health and excellent pateint care. It’s important to him that you receive quality individualized treatment, and that you feel as well cared for as his own family. Before beginning any treatment, he will answer any questions you have so that your overall restorative and cosmetic goals are achieved.
Once the best treatment has been decided on, Dr. Johnson will administer anesthetic to numb the area and make you comfortable throughout the entire procedure. He will then carefully remove all of the tooth decay and bacteria from inside and around the tooth, sterilize the area, and fill the cavity with tooth-colored composite resin. At Oracle Family Dental, we avoid using metal or amalgam fillings and believe tooth-colored composite is an overall healthier and esthetically appealing material for dental fillings.
Dr. Johnson will apply a curing light to harden the resin, then address any excess composite to give you a proper fit and comfortable bite. Finally, he will polish the tooth so that you have a beautiful restoration.
